1) Class Tee
I know that many of you have been anxiously waiting the finalised design/(s) to come out.
However i'm not here to announce them, unfortunately.
Rather, i'm here to ask for help. :/
Jeremy is slightly busy,which i just realised recently, and as such does not have enough time to complete the designs.
As i have no artistic talent WHATSOEVER, i'm pretty much redundant.
Which brings me to the point now, that the class tee needs your help.
Any designs/random thought that you have can be done out and sent out and refined till the final copy is complete.
In a nutshell, i'm calling for the help of the class to make the class tee.
On behalf of the potential class tee, Thank You.

2) Final Class Outing of 2007
On a lighter note, the end of year 2007 is rapidly approaching.
Many memories have been made/etched/formed in the past 360 days.
I was thinking of having a final class outing of the year 2007, before we usher in 2008, and the many new challenges that follow.
This is a little late, i know, but hey...
Better late than never eh?
So what do you say? Yes/No?

i was doing grad night duty as a clicker for the photo montages, quite touching experience

some were full of laughs other just emo till the last picture. whilst some cls dont seem to have a strong bond yet. after 2 years.

im pretty sure that the latter two probably wont happen. 69 FTW!

anyway i got a msg from ACRES again and i rem quite a number of 69 ppl volunteering right

so we could prolly sign up as a cls. cls outing sort

Dear Supporters,

ACRES will be holding 2 roadshows to raise awareness on the illegal wildlife trade in Singapore, bear farming and other animal protection issues. Volunteers are needed to help with these events. If you are interested to volunteer for one or both, please contact me at charlene@acres.org.sg and I'll provide you more details to the event/s. Just let me know what time you'll arrive and leave on your preferred day.

Event #1: NUS Green Carnival 2007

This event, organised by NUS S.A.V.E, promotes conscious consumerism and environmental protection. ACRES will be having a booth with our exhibits and raise awareness on the global “Animals Matter to Me” campaign in support of a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW) to be endorsed by governments of the world.

Location: NUS Central Library Forum

Date: 22nd to 24th October 2007 (Monday to Wednesday)

Time: 10am – 6pm

Event #2: Singapore Wildlife Stampede

The Singapore Wildlife Stampede is a wildlife parade that is part of the Roots & Shoots programme from the Jane Goodall Insitute. The event aims to educate youths and the general public on the endangered animal species, and promote a sense of stewardship towards nature. ACRES will participate in the parade as well as hold our roadshow. Please let me know if you would like to be in the parade or help with the roadshow. The parade begins from 5pm to 7pm, but we'll need help to setup and tear down.

Location: Singapore Botanics Gardens

Date: 2nd November 2007 (Friday)

Time: 3pm – 9.30pm

Animals Matter to Me
We are also looking for anyone who might be able to help obtain petition signatures for the Animals Matter to Me campaign. If you have any ideas who may be able to help (especially people who can help us to get lots of signatures!) please email Amy at amy@acres.org.sg This campaign is a call to everyone, worldwide, to recognise all animals as sentient beings, that they can feel pain and can suffer and that we have a responsibility to put an end to cruelty around the world.

climbing was silly/fun/hot.
burnt my hand but got this dumb certificate tt states i can belay anywhere in S.E.A.
hahaz and artificial ice climbing was a complete waste of energy.
climb halfway then the pick got stuck dam deep in.
bouldering gymn was fun coz we get to lie down on cushion mats and stone in the aircon comfort!

I would like to applaud the actions of a certain single/few individuals who have taken the initiative to actually attempt to initiate a class outing. While the response may have been slightly poor, we cannot deny the fact that there was one outing. Let us hope that more of these kinds of people will rise up to the challenge and let the organising spirit within them rise up and glow in setting sun. 1. Class spirit
... no comments, I just want to quote from Terrance, "your class is very cliquish", and this really leads to a lack of class spirit. Just giving my 2 cents here.

2. Class outing
Maybe a movie? Pirates coming out le.. Haha. I'll not be around from 2nd week of hols onwards, so if you all want a class outing at this period try not to make it in the holidays =P but if really must be in the hols then never mind (=

3. Class Tee/Jacket
I think a class tee should be better. Color? I think blue makes a good choice. (artemis mahh..) Anyway just for your info, my last year's class tee is in orange too (same as seniors)! Haha. Quite a lame color though.

4. Academic Grades
I think the most important thing is just mug.. And ask peers for help.. I would be glad to help you all in Maths, haha. As long as you studied it doesn't matter whether you get good grades or not. Just don't cheat, can't afford to make Miss Ouyang sad again..

Dear Wee Yong, Bryan, Jacob, Zhi Yong, Kimby, Damien, Jonathan, Jun Yao, Jeannie, Donald, Nicholas Koh, Yan Tian, Adriel, Qiuyu, Rachael, Xian You, Melanie, Nicholas Sim, Sarah Soo, Sharon, Sarah Sim, Stella, Jeremy, Ren Yang and Jack of 07S69,

When I first came back to Hwa Chong, I didn't quite know what to expect. Gone was the time when I would walk through the corridors and expect to bump into a familiar face. The uniform was still the same, but the warmth of friends that I've come to associate with Hwa Chong was missing. I was quite alone amidst all these activity that I was once part of. Yet this loneliness could never be shown, for I was supposed to be older, wiser, an army officer and past all these "youthful silliness" of bygone times.

Now that I'm leaving, I'm leaving it the same way I left it 2 years ago - with a fond remembrance, a tinge of sadness and the rush of many happy memories. And I wanted you to know that you guys are partly the reason why - and for that I sincerely thank you.

All of you have become the centerpiece of my life for the past 10 weeks that every aspect of my life seems to revolve around. Sleep becomes of lesser concern at 1am than adding the finishing touches to each script. Answers need to be prepared and re-prepared to make sure that everything was the best possible. And I was so happy when I finally finished using my 4th red-pen in 7 weeks. I make no reservations about telling you this not to vindicate myself, but because I want you to see how important each of you is to me. I enjoyed the entire process (I'm surprised Hwa Chong pays me for this) and that wouldn't have been possible if you guys were not the class that I've come to appreciate.

You class has a great many talents. Some of you are medal-winning sportsmen and women, some have found their niche in the performing arts, and yet others have pursued their passions in service and leadership. Whatever your chosen field, always remember to enjoy yourself. Seriously, life’s too short for anything less. And it is when we apply ourselves to our passions and interests that we find our greatest satisfaction and reward.

I’m going to nag - do study hard now, because the ‘A’ and ‘O’ levels are really two different ball games altogether. (basketball vs volleyball?) You are not going to be able to do the last-min cramming like you did for the ‘O’s. Doing well in your subjects will determine your course in university and ultimately, your occupation for the greater part of your lives. Something else that I realize after becoming a teacher is that at the end of the day, teachers are there to help you. It matters not whether or not you like your teachers, but don’t mistake their good intentions.

I have a list of unsolicited advice that I would like to give to all my juniors, that I share looking back on my own Hwa Chong experience. Things that I appreciated doing, mistakes that you hopefully won't make, and in general, just anything that I wish I knew when I first came to Hwa Chong. The list is attached below. Happy reading!

Treasure your Friends - I've been harping on this, but true friendships are really hard to come by, and yet I found so many here. Friends whom I know will be there with me for many years to come. 2 years on, I don’t remember much of my reaction kinetics or solubility constants, but my friendships made in Hwa Chong are still holding fast.

Learn from One Another - The non-muggers should learn from the muggers how to mug, and the muggers should learn from the non-muggers how to get a life. But seriously, there’s just so much that we can learn from one another if we’re willing to take a step back and admire each other for who they are.

Another application of this is for econs essays, what I use to do what to form study groups of people of varying abilities. Then we’ll sit down and set a topic for the day, in which we would take turns to orally present our essay outline for all the TYS essay questions for that topic. Everyone gets to present, and everyone gets to be critiqued.

Be Humble, Don’t take Yourself Too Seriously – Hwa Chong students tend to swing to extremes. They are either terribly arrogant or terribly lacking in confidence. (see, another example of how you can learn from one another). To the former, please always remember that this is but part of your journey in life, and there’s still a long way ahead for you to trip and fall. For the latter, pull yourself together and go for it! Always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, you’ve already lost without a fight.

Always Clarify Your Doubts ASAP – Don’t let misconceptions snowball because it WILL affect your understanding of topics to come. Imagine trying to do price determination without understanding demand and supply?

Don’t be shy to ask, because even though everyone will appear as though they understand during the lecture, actually many of them are probably as confused as you are. Really! I found that I really only understood what went on during lecture when I do my own revision. What’s 15 minutes with your tutor instead of slacking at the class bench just to make sure your get your concepts right?

Never Ever Skip a Lecture Unless…- You are very sure that you already know what’s being taught AND the lecturer’s teaching style doesn’t really suit you. (euphemism for boring). I stress the AND condition because it is never worth skipping a lecture only to find yourself having to spend more time trying to understand what was being taught in your own free time. In general, it’s hard to be sure that you really know everything there is to know, so unless there’s a really good reason, do go for your lectures.

Never Study for Block Test/Promos only the Week before – This seems quite evident, though year upon year there are always people who believe that a miracle would help them pass the exams if they only start studying the week before.

Scientific fact: Long term memory triggers gene expression. If you do regular revision, you actually increase the number of synapses in your brain. If you think of synapses as pipes, regular revision helps to build more pipes in your brain. Short term cramming essentially tries to force a larger volume of water through the same number of pipes.

We are not defined by our gifts or abilities, but by the choices we make.

Hey guys, how's it going? This blog is like stagnant now. Everybody too busy nowadays? Anyway, I've invaded this blog with VJC stuff, hope to add some colours to this blog. And i know tat at least one of you (the 2nd intakers) were in VJC for the first 3 months right? maybe this will interest you.

A Singaporean lawyer who graduated from Harvard came to give a talk on how we should enjoy arts even with careers in mind. She even gave a impromptu modern dance for us.

This one is UBER COOOL! SAF band came to perform at the concourse, they are SUPER Zai! They define the term "Zai-ness", as good if not better than professionals! They performed songs by Oasis, Radiohead and others. The guy on the Sax is especially zai, his fingers were flying across the buttons. The drummer also super zai. Man, this is a crazy performance.

This guy is the lead vocals, super cool dude, very good looking and most importantly, super pro. you guys should have been here man, it's too good to put into words.

And then there was the Grafitti artist.

This one is the cartoonist, he gave toon-like potraits to ppl, it was too late for me to get one, coz need to gather at hall then.

Here are some of his works, jus a tiny snippet of everything he's done.We had Tan Keng Hua (Margaret from Phua Chu Kang Pvt Ltd) the director (american ang moh) and the producer from the recent movie "Cages" to talk to us about film production and their experiences. Rather insightful.

And then there was the VJC T-shirt design competition, here are some examples, i'll post the top 3 designs when they are out. they will eventually be made for us to wear! some are pretty interesting...

Note the word "Victorian", it's symmetric.

This one is one of those design tat i personally like best. Try reading it upside down. Cool font too..Okay, sorry about the JTS, couldn't make it. But i'll be free in june hols. Hope to meet the 2nd intakers too! Miss you all(including the seniors), hope i'll be able to break the sch record! not far from it now. So it's goodbye for now, work hard and play hard! (Congrats to Lam, SC needs jokers like you! lol)

Didn't know whether to post or not coz I'm not practically in 69 anymore, so if anyone objects to this, msg me k?

Anyway, VJC is rather nice. I was very lucky to get a transfer from Arts to Sci. Was talking to the Sci HOD and there wasn't any space left in Sci, then 2 guys came in and said they wanted a transfer of class. Wa la, just got in like tat.
